PERFECT SIGN SOLUTION TO CELEBRATE EARTH DAY 2016

April 21, 2016, 2:13 am

Earth Day has been celebrated on April 22 every year since 1970.  A lot has changed in the 46 years since that very first Earth Day, and how corporate America now embraces eco-friendly practices is one of them. Today, The Global Display Solution is proud to be helping businesses that have made this transition.

A great way for retailers to go green is to follow the lead of Whole Foods Market. Not long ago, Whole Foods released its  “Private Label Packaging Standards and Details", which outline the company’s commitment to sustainable packaging. It sets guidelines for vendors using criteria that are based on recyclability, carbon footprint, and sustainability of raw materials.

Among the materials receiving a failing grade is PVC (polyvinyl chloride), a plastic commonly used in packaging and merchandising. A frequent application familiar to everybody is lamination. Retailers, schools, and offices use PVC everyday to laminate signs and notices.  The reason PVC  gets the bad grade, according to the guide, is because “it is toxic to plant workers, the environment, and not easily recyclable.”

Despite the problems PVC presents, thousands of locations use laminate every day to protect their signs, notices, and other graphics.  But, there is an alternative to this waste.

Our green reusable sign protectors protect graphics and signs just as effectively as laminate -- providing merchandisers with a clean, professional presentation.  They also receive other benefits, because unlike laminate, our green sign protectors are:

  • Made of APET, the same material used for water and soda bottles.  So our sign protectors can be added to store's recycling program.
  • Much less labor-intensive. Get rid of the power sucking laminator! (just slip the sign in and display, no laminating or trimming involved).
  • Reusable - APET material does not break. Our sign holders can be used dozens of times
  • Ready for Retail - There are over 100 sizes and styles available -- many of which are designed to fit store fixtures without the need for a fastener or clip.

"The great thing about these products is that in addition to their green benefit," says TGDS general manager Earle Bevins, "they produce a real cost savings for retailers."    .

For example, a store that generates 50 signs a week using our green sign protectors can realize a savings of $243 a quarter!

So this Earth Day, why not reconsider improving something as simple as your in-store signage? This one easy move could help improve the plant and save you money at the same time.
