School is Out, Hunger is Not: You Can Help Community Families

May 31, 2017, 2:05 am

Final Update:

For the month of June, The Global Display Solution will conduct a summer fundraising drive called, “School is Out, Hunger is Not,” so the company and their customers can make a difference in kids lives this summer.

School Is Out Hunger Is Not

Summer means less access to food for many children in our community, since families who receive free and reduced meals at school struggle to find a way to replace them during the summer months. According to the Oregon Food Bank, Oregon has the 4th highest rate of childhood hunger in the nation. Portland schools are out from June 15th until September 5th and the estimated 91,000 children who are served through their School Pantry Program are the same children who receive free and reduced lunch at their schools. It is critical the community help bridge the gap.

“We want to be one of many businesses who help ease this situation affecting so many of our community’s families, and we decided this promotion might be a good way for us and our customers to do just that,” said Earle Bevins, President of The Global Display Solution (TGDS).

The company’s “School is Out, Hunger is Not” will run from June 1 to June 30, during which time the company will donate 3 percent of gross, e-commerce sales to the Oregon Food Bank. This way, TGDS can create awareness about this unique challenge, give their customers a chance to participate, and also help this worthy organization further their mission in the state of Oregon and the Clark County community in Washington.
