The Global Display Solution Delivers in Amazon/Whole Foods Campaign

September 7, 2017, 1:58 am

On Monday, August 28th, Amazon’s $13.7 billion acquisition of Whole Foods formally went through. And, in the weekend leading up to that day -- filled with plans to feature lower prices, extend the Prime rewards, and other specials -- Whole Foods in Northern California reached out to The Global Display Solution, TGDS, to help prepare their stores.

TGDS was asked to provide their Retractable Banners as part of the “We’re Growing Something Good” campaign to mark the Amazon deal. According to Whole Foods’ website, the new venture will “Pursue the vision of making high-quality, natural and organic food affordable for everyone.” And, as a “down payment” on that vision, the stores started offering lower prices on a selection of best-selling grocery staples across their stores.

The company’s Retract 36 displays large and highly visible banners from open ceilings simply and easily, without the expense of lifts or the liability of a ladder. Many Whole Foods stores already use the Retract 36 in their day-to-day operations, but in anticipation of the big announcement, TGDS received a rush order for approximately 25 stores on Thursday evening. Saturday delivery was required so that everything would be ready when the deal closed on Monday and the stores opened.

We’ve had a relationship with Whole Foods going back at least ten years, so everyone worked really hard to make sure this order went off without a hitch,” according to Kristy Blakley, Account Manager. The sales team worked to gather all the information and logistics and the warehouse staff hustled to gather, package, and ship the products to the stores. On Monday morning, the Retractable Banners were up, announcing new pricing on many items and promoting the campaign to customers.

“The Amazon deal was a big development in the grocery sector,” said TGDS President, Earle Bevins, “and I’m happy we could provide a solution and I’m proud of how our team came together to help make it happen.” Bevins noted The Retract 36 Banner Systems, which use a pole to pull down banner displays to facilitate quick banner changes in open ceiling environments, are a perfect fit for stores that are trying to reduce labor expense without cutting corners on safety.
