Want to Sell More Magazines at Your Store? Keep These Display Tips in Mind

Several studies, including one from Brigham Young University, showed that merchandise with a sign outsold merchandise without a sign by 20%. That being said, it's not uncommon for retailers to have a bit of trouble selling certain items, typically those considered impulse purchases, like magazines. Between six and 10 purchases in a store can be classified as impulse purchases.

Use Modern Lighting

Regardless of where in your store your magazines are typically displayed, it helps to shed some extra light on them -- quite literally. Investing in some small but powerful LED spotlights can help your store's magazine racks appear more professional, organized, and most of all, visible. These lights will compel visitors to make that extra impulse purchase before they hit the checkout counter. LED lights are very affordable and low-maintenance.

Front and Center

Next, take a moment to evaluate the current positioning and placement of your store's magazine display. Can customers see the display right as they come in the door, or are they only visible to those who are at the checkout counter? You want to put the magazine display in a place where it's both visible and convenient for customers. But you also want to make sure customers have enough time to browse before being 'ushered' through the checkout line. If not, they'll just glance and then look away.

Use Color

On average, consumers are exposed to 3,000 ads and promotional messages every day, and some of the most successful ads and custom retail displays have the most dazzling color schemes. That being said, there is such a thing as going overboard -- after all, you don't want to make customers' eyes hurt. Choose relaxing colors that draw attention, like navy blue, yellow, and green. Red is also a great color to incorporate into the display, though it should be used sparingly.

Although shoppers will use their smartphones to do research on a product, 77% of consumers will go to a store to shop, making it more important than ever to maximize the retail space you have available and take advantage of these creative retail display ideas.
