Debunking Some Of The Most Common Retail Display Myths: Part 2

June 27, 2017, 3:05 am

In the last post, we talked about some common retail display myths. However, there are many more to be aware of before designing and implementing one of your own. Here are some more myths surrounding retail displays.

  1. Myth: Retail displays are expensive.
While certain elements of technical or complex customized retail displays may be expensive to manufacture, the vast majority of materials used in retail displays are very affordably priced. This means that you'll still have the ability to allocate funds and efforts to designing your advertising materials and displaying them appropriately.
  2. Myth: The designed advertising materials such as signs are always more important than how they're displayed.
This is a huge myth. The fact is, even if you make the most beautiful and well-designed poster or sign in the world, no one will see unless it's properly mounted with either a floor sign holder, a  suction cup poster holder, or a door sign holder. There are virtually countless ways to display your materials, and visibility is an absolutely critical component of any custom retail display. Don't underestimate its importance.
  3. Myth: I have to be a professional designer to set up a successful POP (point-of-purchase) display.
Sure, having design experience is definitely helpful, but it's not a requirement. Anyone with a bit of flair and creativity can design a successful POP display. Jim Hollen, writer for the Rich Limited blog, says, "You actually have to know very little about materials and options for how to build a display. You should have some general ideas of what you would like your display to look like or what size and functionality requirements you would like, but leave it to your display provider to present material and construction options to you."

Ultimately, the importance of well-designed retail displays should not be underestimated. According to a 2011 report, 86% of consumers will pay more for a better experience, and customized retail displays are just one way to enhance the overall customer experience.
